Um, Do We Want To Fight This Battle?

I have really enjoyed hearing the outrage of the American people at these town hall meetings. I especially enjoy hearing politicians, silver tongued under normal circumstances, begin blubbering with dazed expressions when confronted by the enraged people that put them in office.
At several Obama presentations some people have chosen to carry unconcealed weapons to these gatherings, exercising their right to keep and bear arms, in open protest against the president of the United States.
A few pictures:
His sign is based on the quote by Thomas Jefferson: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants".

This man decided to carry an AR-15 and a handgun to an Obama event. Research shows that this was staged, after a fashion, this guy brought his AR to the event and was interviewed by one of his buddies.

I'm curious to hear what y'all think about this, but I personally think this is the right battle at the wrong time. If the folks that carried these guns, toted them every day, that would be a different matter. So why draw unnecessary attention to yourself?
The purpose of a handgun is for personal protection, not showing off at a political event. It's a tool. This is a huge no-no in self-defense circles.
An AR-15 is a battle rifle. It's designed to kill people. If you are going into battle, it's a great thing to have, but taking it to a political event is shouting, "Look, everybody, I have an assault-type rifle". Completely unnecessary.
Now, I'm all for Second Amendment rights, but Biblical common sense is essential. Especially in these times.
I believe a weapon should never be shown in public unless someone's life is in danger. Why set yourself as a lightning rod?

I completely agree with you. I also agree with the point this man is making.
Great post!

While it is my personal opinion that an openly armed populace is the best form of crime prevention and tyranny prevention possible (second to God's providential hand)I agree with you that it is mere stupidity to carry an aussault-type rifle into public for no reason but to make a statement.
